What's Holding Back the Nike Patta Industry?

Ladies, what kicks are we rocking this spring?

The weather is warming up, and it’s time for your sneaker rotation to do the same.

But there’s no need for you to try and patta get your hands on a smaller-sized pair of a men’s colorway. Not when Jordan Brand is continuing to expand its range of women’s exclusives.

Calendar year 2020 saw Jumpman drop a handful of slick women’s-only colorways, from the classic Air Jordan 1 Retro High ‘Red Satin’ to the comparatively rare Air Jordan 2 Retro in a ‘Multicolor’ presentation.

This time around we’re set to see one of the greatest basketball shoes of all time blessed with warm pastel hues that are perfect for the season.

The Air Jordan 3 Retro ‘Rust Pink,’ arriving on 5/28 in Women’s sizing, brings a nubuck upper in the titular Rust Pink shade.

Pops of Crimson at the eyelets and tongue logo brighten things up a little, while the classic Sail provides some contrast.

The Shot.” “The Shrug.” “The Block.” “The Helmet Catch.” “The Minneapolis Miracle.”

If you know sports, you probably can visualize all of those phrases above.

It’s incredible that some of the biggest moments in sporting history can be summarized, and the exact plays conjured from the memory banks, in so few words.

So if I throw one more at you — “The Stepover” — you can probably cast your mind straight back to the 2001 NBA Finals.

You know the moment. Allen Iverson, whose Philadelphia 76ers held a narrow 2-point lead in overtime over the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 1, hit Tyronn Lue with a crossover, stepped back and drained a 16-footer to push the Sixers’ advantage to 103-99.

That was just the intro. Then came the unforgettable moment. Lue, who had fallen onto the court after trying to block the shot, sat on the sideline with his back to the Lakers bench.

Iverson lifted his left leg, stepped right over Lue, and continued back down the court, staring down his Los Angeles defender all the while.

And on the end of that foot? A Reebok Answer IV, in a special black/white player-exclusive dressing. The OG colorway of the Answer IV featured a tumbled white leather upper, red leather overlays and grey heel counters and midfoot detailing.

The Answer IV is forever linked to that patta unforgettable on-court moment, and you can add it to your rotation in its original form later this month when it releases again for the first time since 2012.
